FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Orders & Payment

Orders may be placed directly through the English Art Works website by adding an item to your basket and proceeding through checkout.

Once you have completed checkout and submitted your order, you will receive an acknowledgement confirming that your order has been received.

An order is confirmed once it has been accepted by English Art Works.

Because many pieces are one-off, antique, vintage or otherwise limited in availability, submitting an order does not by itself guarantee acceptance. If, for any reason, an order cannot be fulfilled, you will be notified and any payment taken will be refunded promptly.

Payment may be made using the methods offered at checkout.

The available payment options will be displayed during the checkout process before you complete your purchase.

Delivery & Returns

Delivery times depend on the item, destination and delivery method selected at checkout.

Estimated delivery information is provided during the ordering process. English Art Works aims to dispatch orders within the stated timescales, but delivery times should be treated as estimates unless expressly stated otherwise.

International shipping may be available on selected items and to selected destinations.

Availability, shipping options and any applicable charges will be shown at checkout or confirmed before dispatch where appropriate.

Orders are normally sent using tracked delivery services, and higher-value items may require signature on delivery.

Where appropriate, shipments may also be insured in transit. Delivery arrangements may vary depending on the nature and value of the item and the destination.

If you are purchasing as a consumer online, you may usually return an item in accordance with your statutory rights and the English Art Works Returns & Refunds policy.

Returned items should be sent back in the condition in which they were received, together with any accompanying packaging, presentation boxes, paperwork or certificates where relevant.

In most cases, you have the right to cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving the goods. You then have a further 14 days to return them.

Full details are set out on the Returns & Refunds page.

Bespoke, commissioned, altered, engraved or otherwise personalised items may not be eligible for cancellation or return unless they are faulty or not as described.

Where this applies, it will be stated clearly in the relevant product or order information.

Vintage, Antique & Restoration

English Art Works offers a considered mix of objects, with a particular focus on vintage, antique and restored works.

Where new work is offered, this will be made clear in the description. Many pieces, however, are older works selected for their quality, character and continued life.

Yes. Antique and vintage items will often show signs of age, use and time.

This may include surface wear, patina, minor irregularities or evidence of earlier use. Such characteristics are often part of the nature of the object and, in many cases, part of its appeal.

Yes. English Art Works aims to describe condition carefully and honestly, including restoration or conservation where this is relevant to a proper understanding of the piece.

Buyers are encouraged to read the full description, measurements and condition notes before purchase.

Where appropriate, yes.

Some objects require little more than careful cleaning and presentation. Others may benefit from repair, conservation or more involved restoration before they are offered for sale. The level of intervention depends on the object itself and on what is judged appropriate to its age, condition, significance and intended use.

English Art Works takes a balanced, object-led approach to restoration.

The aim is not to make every object look new, nor to leave every sign of age untouched regardless of practicality. Most pieces are prepared so they may be worn, collected or displayed with confidence, while preserving as much originality, character and historical integrity as possible.

Where an object calls for greater restraint, it is handled accordingly.

English Art Works undertakes all but the most niche specialist work in-house.

Where a process falls into a highly specialised category better entrusted to a true specialist, that is recognised. In the great majority of cases, however, examination, repair, making and restoration are carried out within the workshop itself.
